Step one: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Crack the egg on the side of the bowl, letting the egg slip into the bowl. Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, peanut butter, shortening, and margarine/butter. Stir with the wooden spoon until mixed.

Step two: Add in the flower, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Stir until mixed. Shape the dough into 1 ¼ inch balls, slightly smaller than a golf ball and if you need to use a ruler. Put the balls about 3 inches apart from each other on the cookie sheet. The sheet does not need to be greased.

Step three: Dip a fork into amount of granulated sugar firmly press the fork in a crisscross pattern on the balls.

Step four: Bake 9 to 10 minutes or until the cookies are light brown. Use potholders to take [the] cookie sheet out of the oven. Cool cookies on cookie sheet for 2 minutes. Using a pancake turner, take cookies off cookie sheet and put them on wire cooling rack to finish cooling.

Step five: Enjoy, savor the flavor, chew slowly and maybe have a glass of milk!

Variation: [the cookies] Taste awesome with chocolate chip ice cream wedged between two cookies! If you like, roll the edges in small candies, chocolate chips, or chopped peanuts. Put in plastic wrap until firm (about 1 hour).
